On this page I highlight lovely words I have discovered, in the hopes that we might smuggle them back into everyday speech and writing.

Apricate: to bask in the sunshine

Apricity: warmth of the sun in winter or the ability to stay calm in difficult situations

Balter: to dance clumsily

Baboonery: foolishness

Bumfuzzle: to bamboozle

Calescent: growing warm

Cancatervate: to heap things in a pile

Gallimaufry: a jumble or hotchpotch

Liminal: relating to a transitional or initial stage of a process; occupying a position at or on both sides of a boundary 

Needments: things needed, especially personal necessaries carried on a journey

Peduncle: stalk of flower, fruit, or cluster, especially main stalk bearing solitary flower

Persiflage: light-hearted banter or flippancy

Petrichor: the smell of rain

Scantling: specimen, sample, modicum, small amount, one's necessary supply of

Snollygoster: shrewd, unprincipled person, especially a politician
